PSY 227 - Dr. Martin

American Psychological Association - Find "Psychology Topics" and click on "Sleep"

  • Can you condense one or two of the articles on the Psychology Topics website into keywords?

For example,

Study Suggests Older, Preteen Children May Not Be Getting Enough Sleep

Keywords: Preteens *or* adolescents, AND sleep deprivation

your article search might look like this:

Tip: Use subject specific dictionaries and encyclopedias to find keyword alternatives that will get better search results in the article databases.

For example, you may substitute "adolescent" with "older child", or "teen".

How to combine the two databases for simultaneous searching:

  1. Enter either PsycArticles or PsycInfo and click on the tab.

  2. Scroll down the list and checkmark PsycArticles and PsycInfo.

  3. Click the "Continue" button at the bottom

  4. Now you should see the names of both databases.

Limiting search results to find Empirical Studies:

Tip: Do not limit your search results to Full Text at first. Try to find article citations that best fit your research topic and either ask a librarian to help track down a full text version or order it through InterLibrary Loan. Never sacrifice your topic simply because an article is a bit harder to obtain!
