Instructional Services - Library Instruction Sessions

Library Instruction is crucial for students at NCWC. Here are the various ways in which we can deliver instruction:

NCWC Course Related Instruction
Course-related sessions comprise the core of Pearsall Library's Instructional Services. Librarians prepare and present materials using the faculty member's specific library-related assignment. Sessions are held in the library's computer lab/classroom.

Consider arranging for a library instructional session if you have a specific assignment that calls for library resources. The sessions work best if the assignment is handed out to students prior to the actual session. Library sessions are optimally effective when students are aware of specific library requirements. Curriculum-Integrated Library Assignments -- Problem Based Learning
Professional librarians collaborate with course instructors to create assignments that require structured, progressive information literacy competencies. These competencies have been aligned with ACRL standards to dramatically improve student academic performance. Would you like to put a library research "spin" on an assignment?

Ten Minute Instruction Sessions
During the 10 minute session a librarian will stop by your classroom and introduce the students to some of the resources available through Pearsall Library. The librarian will present a guide of resources to the students and invite them to attend a subject specific workshop or drop-in clinic.

RefDesk Sessions
The reference desk at Pearsall Library is staffed 30+ hours per week by a professor- librarian. Stop during reference desk hours to work one-on-one with a professor who can help you with assignments!

Outreach Instruction for Visiting Middle or High School Students or Community College Students
If you would like your students to have a tour or instruction session on using the library, please contact James Parrigin at jlparrigin@ncwc.edu or 252-985-5233. We are happy to show students from other schools how to use our resources!
