 July 2, 2008

The QEP Design Committee met for a Retreat at the NCWC Triangle campus. The Retreat hosted a guest speaker from a peer institution, Meredith College. The speaker presented concepts and approaches to developing an information literacy program. QEP members presented a review of literature during the second half of the retreat.

 Aug. 18, 2008

QEP Basic information presented to new faculty during new faculty orientation. Met with Dr. Wiggs and Rocky Mount City representatives to discuss municipal research topics.

Aug. 27, 2008

QEP Committee Chair presents basic QEP information to the General Education Committee.

Oct. 16, 2008

QEP Committee Chair presents the QEP to NC Wesleyan College Trustees.

 

Jan. 13, 2009

QEP update report sent to Faculty Council Chair and NC Wesleyan Board of Trustees. The update involves restricting the GIST program to courses in the upper divisions, where the original plan called for inclusion of courses in General Education.

QEP Committee members present on the development of the GIST program at the North Carolina State University Undergraduate Assessment Symposium. The presentation is titled, “Linking City Hall Issues & Term Papers: Assessing Academic Competence and Real World Relevance"

QEP Committee members present to the Rocky Mount Kiwanis Club: The formation of NC Wesleyan’s QEP and the Rocky Mount Research Topics Symposium, 2008-2009.”

Summer, 2009

Each NC Wesleyan support staff department is invited to a Library resources training session that promotes information literacy, attunes staff to student information-seeking behaviors, and promotes the QEP and GIST program.

 

June 2

QEP Document draft sent to Dr. Stubblefield, Dean of the College

 

June 4

Met with librarians to plan QEP workshops for all staff departments. All workshops have been scheduled. Training guide developed and distributed.

 

June 5

QEP Promotions meeting 1-2pm

 

June 23

QEP Core group taught the first Faculty Workshop.

 

July 1

QEP group welcomes Jonathan Vester, Director, Office of Institutional Research. Begin to prepare for Aug. 11 GIST faculty workshop.

 

July 10

Promotional materials package sent to Goldsboro ADP Director, Thetis Hoch.

 

July 15

QEP Document revision sent to NC Wesleyan administrators: President, Dean of the College, VP of Finance, ADP site Directors, Director of the Library, Director of Institutional Research.

 

July 30

Meeting with Student Government Association President, Jacob Strickland. Made plans to present a QEP update report at the first SGA meeting in September.

 

August 5

QEP Faculty Workshop (Aug. 11) planning, 2:00-4:00pm.

 

August 12

Final draft of QEP Document sent to Dr. Jay Stubblefield, Dean of the College.

 

August 19

QEP report given to faculty and administrators at Faculty Convocation. QEP Document is duplicated in print and digital formats. To be sent to SACS with Focused Report Aug. 20.

 

Sept. 2

Peer tutors are trained to assist students with research assignments; to identify information requirements in assignments and to refer students with research questions to librarians and the Writing Center.

 

Sept. 4

Met with Jim Dickens printing company to order promotional materials to distribute to students.

 

Sept. 8

Presented the QEP to all Residence Hall Directors. Scheduled student floor meetings in each hall during the week of 9/14-9/17. During these floor meetings, QEP members will discuss GIST with students floor-by-floor in each residence hall.

 

Sept. 9

Maintenance Department creates outdoor signs for the front and rear entrances.

 

Sept. 14

Floor meetings with Edgecomb Hall, 8:30pm. (110 students)

 

Sept. 15

Floor meetings with Nash Hall, 8:30pm. (70 students)

 

Sept. 16

Football Team meeting during study hall, 7:30pm (80 students)

Floor meetings with Pettaway Hall, 8:30pm (100 students)

 

Sept. 17

Floor meetings with Collins, Boddie, and Centura Halls, 7-7:30pm. (115 students)

 

Sept 18

QEP group develops slideshow presentation in preparation for SACS visit.

 

Sept 21

QEP Meeting, 3-5pm. The group presents their slideshow to President Gray.

 

Sept. 23

QEP Rally Night @ the Library. 8:00pm.

 

Sept. 25

QEP Chair meets with SACS Logistics Team

 

Sept. 30

QEP group delivers presentation to SACS.
