Sociology:
The Sociology professors wanted to involve more research in their freshman-level courses and, the librarians were there to provide help. In this case, the librarian suggested abandoning the older assignment, which was a scavenger hunt. Generally, scavenger hunts are okay for showing students "where things are", but do not foster critical thinking and students' understanding of course subject matter. Here, the assignment asks students to study a social problem, tell the professor how they feel about the problem, and then support their views with professional literature, underscoring the sociological perspectives. |
