Pearsall Library NCLA Poster 2007
Big Victory for a Small Academic Library: A Grass Roots Approach to Integrating Information Literacy Skills at the Assignment Level
Abstract: Small academic libraries are challenged to deliver innovative library instruction amid staffing shortages and committee gridlock. As a solution, NCWC librarians created a grassroots approach to librarian-faculty collaborations. The successes of these collaborations have formed the backbone of an information literacy program that requires little maintenance and yields many significant benefits in a short time.

All assignments foster Information Literacy skills competencies for freshmen and sophomores. Students benefit from (1) Acquiring basic information skills and then (2) Using those skills in different classes, for different kinds of assignments, across the curriculum.

*Remember, librarians and course instructors should collaborate on assignments that satisfy each of the information literacy standards for freshmen and sophomores. Below, you will find assignments that are the results of successful collaborations between librarians and course instructors.
