Renewals
Materials except reserve items may be renewed by telephone, e-mail, in
person, or through the online catalog for a period equivalent to that of
the original loan, providing the item has not been recalled by another
patron.
Recalls
Occasionally books and other materials may be recalled due to special needs by another patron. Such items will not be recalled before the original due date unless they are checked out to a faculty or staff member for the entire term. The minimum loan period for recalled items for faculty and staff is 30 days.
Overdue Fines
Faculty and staff are not assessed overdue fines. Students, alumni, and public borrowers are assessed fines on overdue materials at the following rates:
- $0.20 per day for books, CDs, and other materials
- $1.00 per day for videotapes and DVDs
- $0.50 per hour for hourly reserve items
- $1.00 per day for daily reserve items
The maximum fine charged for any one item ranges from $25.00 to $40.00. Overdue notices are normally generated once a week. Borrowers with overdue items will receive two notices.
Course Reserves
The library maintains course reserves to make sure heavily used resources are available for students when they need them. Library materials or faculty-owned materials, including books, periodicals, and audiovisual media, may be placed on reserve. Copyright law does not permit the library to place on reserve photocopies of material that is protected by copyright. Reserve items may be designated strict reserve (3-hour circulation period for use in the library), 1-day, 3-day, or 1-week reserve. |
