The Pearsall Library Addition is
scheduled for completion during Spring 2009.
Below are descriptions of the planned space and
services that will be added as a result of the
addition.

The addition will touch the parking lot on the left. |

The library addition will be designed to match the
existing brick Georgian architecture that are the
hallmarks of Wesleyan. The final approved
plans have made the archways round instead of
square.
The exterior nearest the Pearsall building will
feature seating and a garden area near the entrance.

The below blueprint shows an overview
of the changes and additions that will be made to
the library space. Look below for a
description of key new elements.

|
|
INFORMATION COMMONS
Students should never be far
from the help or the tools they need to do research.
The Information Commons will include computers,
reference books, and heavy staffing by librarians at
the nearby reference desk, allowing students to
access the electronic and print resources that they
need to do any academic work. The Information
Commons will be the center of the new library.
|
|
INSTRUCTION LAB
Teaching 21st-century
information skills requires a 21st-century
environment. The Instruction Lab will
include ample computing space and the latest
technology so that class sessions taught in the
library will be more productive than ever
before.
|
|
INTERNET CAFE
As a center of student
activity, the library will provide amenities.
At the Internet Cafe, students will be able to get
food and drink while they work or use the Web for
leisure. Completely surrounded by windows,
students will be able to see and be seen.
|
|
GROUP STUDY SPACE
Collaborative work space is
always at a premium.
Group projects and collaborative study rule the day
on college campuses. The library will be a
great place for students to study and create with,
or near, their classmates. In addition to the
information commons and the internet cafe, the
library will include additional group study rooms to
accommodate a variety of student needs.
